Jan 12th, 2006:  The first meeting of the new year and there is MUCH to discuss as you will read in the messages from our president and vice-president.  Time is still 7:30 p.m.  If anyone would like to volunteer for refreshments (we provide coffee and punch) please contact John Mahany (562/2343-8423) or Connie Anderson (818/259-7001).

Program:  This month our discussion of the upcoming year is a VERY important part of the program and we urge ALL members to attend.  There are plans and issues to be resolved which affect all members.  Be there and voice your opinions.  On the lighter side after break we will have the video "1-6 Right".  This highly acclaimed video of the Van Nuys airport illustrates the importance of airport to the community and what we can do as a group and individuals to promote aviation to the general community.

President's Message:

I would like to say Happy New Year to everyone!

This year is already shaping up to be better than 2005. I received a call from George Dobner just before Christmas, telling me that they would like to bring the B-17 back to Long Beach on their tour this year. Their visit is tentatively planned for April 5 – 10. George tells me that in the past Long Beach has been one of their most successful (read ‘profitable’) stops! Please mark this on your calendar. We will be in need of volunteers to help with this! More details will follow…

New chapter member Chad Goodman called recently to tell me he is traveling to Oregon this month for the first flight of his BD-5! He has been working on this for many years! Following his ‘first flight’ in Oregon later this month, and putting a few hours on his BD-5, he will be trucking his aircraft down here, and hopes to keep it at Chino if he can find hangar space. Here he will conduct another ‘first flight’, and he hopes to then fly off the balance of the time required for test flying. I am looking forward to working with him on his first flight out of Chino, and will report on it in the Flight Advisor column. I am looking forward to this!

Do any of you have any projects that are nearing completion, this year?

Oshkosh/AirVenture 2005 was very successful last year! We had a good turnout! It is not too early to mention it for this year, as July is only 6 months away.

Light Sport Aircraft update; in speaking with Keith Furlong, President of California Flight Center recently, he tells me that the California Flight Center will soon be adding four Light Sport Aircraft to their fleet, two at Hawthorne and two here at Long Beach.

Having a Rotax engine, they will be very economical to operate.

Let’s have a great year in 2006!

Fly safely this year!

John

Vice-President's Message:   Happy New Year

Hello Everyone, I hope you had a Happy start of a New Year. Well now that all the Bowl games are over and your team won it is time to get back to Airplanes.

At this meeting I will be asking for suggestions as to what you would like to see in the way of programs so please put on your thinking cap. If there is any thing from last year that you would like to see again please tell me. As always I will be having Homebuilders nights. We have some members that are working on projects but are not ready to show us any thing yet.

This meeting Hal Gosling will bring his DVD on “16 Right” it is a documentary on the Van Nuys Airport. I have not seen it but I understand it is a very informative video that pertains to many of us as EAA members. See you Thursday night.

Regards

Connie Anderson

As I mentioned in my president’s column, new chapter member Chad Goodman is planning his first flight, and the first few hours of flight testing in his BD-5 later this month, in Oregon. Following that, he will be bringing it down here to Chino, where I will work with him on his first flight here. I am looking forward to this opportunity and will be reporting on that in this column!
